This entry is dedicated to my good pal Balbonics.

And these photos were taken by Gab (but of course!) March of last year.

I already blogged about that day with the fur clan some time ago but back then, I just didn't have the chance to post the other pics of Jesse who was very sweet and cuddly and muy guapo.

It's really tough losing a dear pet. I so know that. :-(

So, this entry is for you Balbs.

And Jesse, wherever you are, may you rest in peace. Hope ya find my other furries, whom you never had the chance to meet in this life. I bet you'd all have a blast together.

curious cats and then some

I was dreading that day when I had to do some digging yet again.

I still remember that time when Gab and I spent 4-5 hours digging a hole deep enough for my dearly departed dog, Nero. Back then it was just her and me and two shovels.

I feel somewhat better this time around that I had some more help. My brother and uncle were willing to help so they did most of the tough work.

But before we got to lay Ponks to rest, there goes the other cats (Saffy, Ashley and Piglet), sniffing around.

Cats are such curious creatures.

What is that saying that talks about that? Ahhh...

Curiosity killed the cat!

But what we don't know is that the often quoted English proverb is quite incomplete. We hardly ever hear the rest of it. This is what it says...

And satisfaction brought it back!

Hmmm... Hey, am not in denial here. I know that none of my dead cats are ever coming back. But I take comfort in the fact that we all had fun while they were still around. I will cherish all those furry memories forever.

Gab and I didn’t have to try hard to amuse ourselves today. Still a bit despondent over Ponkan’s untimely demise, we decided to spend some quality time with the surviving cats. They’re quite easy to entertain, really. All it takes is a piece of string.

But amused we weren’t. so I decided to use the string to play with Gab instead. I had this nifty idea of turning her legs into what is loosely called “string art” – nice white canvases too eh?

Before long, we were on the hunt for longer pieces of string, some cardboard, scissors and crayons. Art Attack!!!!

We thought it would be really cool to come up with some home-made designer sandals ala Roman style. The pink and green slippers were getting a bit boring since the ubiquitous string was missing.

Ahhh… the many wonderful ways to spice up one’s life with uhrm… string. B&D anyone? He he he. That's a JOKE! Or maybe not?

And so, this is what we came up with...

The things we do to amuse ourselves... but, who are we kidding? We're still in mourning. Dear Ponky cat, wherever you are, may you rest in peace.

So long....

And thanks for all the fish!

That should include foodies from Whiskas, Tuffy's, Friskies, Nutripet and the occasional Fancy Feast and Iam's from when my mum got lucky and was sent a huge bagful.

Will miss my momcat Pumpkin. My dada Salmon. Even the resident Terror Cat Shadow. So too will I miss the 8 other surviving cats that I can't name just now. Oh and the dog-cat Frodo.

Will meow my way to nirvana.

Or kitty heaven.

Or to oblivion.

at the vet's, again!

i received a call from dr. vet while i was in class today. Ponks still very sick, still lethargic, with no significant improvement... sniffs!

'twas a good thing too that i get off from work quite early. classes are over before 4PM so gab and i rushed to the vet pronto to see my sick kitty.

while cruising along south super high way, gab and i were trying to cheer ourselves up by playing silly cat-games (more about that later), taking photos, etcetera. it didn't take very long to get to the clinic. waiting time was longer. there were so many other humans with their sick pets. so meanwhile, the resident cat named Holland came out to play with us, and ham it up too.

he is such a darling! super cute! way cuter and friendlier than the clinic's grumpy receptionist! :-( i also couldn't help but think that he likes gab better than me, do you see him getting on MY lap? noooo... but there he is perched on gab's. hmmm, prolly coz gab is very cool while i'm not. i make him gigil. couldn't help myself. and cats don't like that.

they like to play hard-to-get. :-(

oh well!

atleast there was another resident cat who allowed me to make her gigil... didn't quite catch her name though. but she does reminds me of dear carrot. that's me with her on the left as she was trying to make her escape from moi.

obviously, we had to wait a very long time to be able to shoot so many pictures (more to come laters). and when the vet finally showed up with sick Ponky, Holland cat was right there to make usyoso. his presence was very comforting to me. and i suspect Ponks felt the same way. doc vet and the other patients are so lucky to have a sweet cat.

there i was getting deja vu all over again.

this was the exact same spot where i said my last goodbyes to mango. and two years ago, to maki. :-( i don't wish to be in denial. the doc says that things don't look very good. it's neither viral nor bacterial, but quite possibly, some chemical poisoning. many tests have to be made in order to determine the probable causes. you can forget about the exact cause. is it ever monocausal?

hmmm... and quick answers are possible only in series like CSI. here, it may take weeks, or even months to figure out. i guess we'll never really know, eh? :-(

sick pussy

i dread this time of the year. :-(

because i'm caring for so many furry friends: that's 12 felines and one canine to be exact, i guess it's inevitable that i make that trip to the vet more than once or twice a year. after frodo's sickness in july of last year (see photo of me force feeding Frodog,  courtesy of mamarazzi Gab)... here's another kitty that's seriously ill.

am just thankful that gab was there to help me find him. cats have this extrasensory perception--they seem to know when their human has plans of bringing them to the vet because they make themselves very scarce. gab and i had to crawl (almost) to get Ponks from underneath the cobwebby pile of old junk in the backyard. and while driving to the vet, he made sure we knew he was very pissed. the meows soon turned to yowwrrrrls.:-(

the doctors don't know exactly what's wrong with him yet. they're still doing the blood work. but i read the doctor's notes and here's what it said:

abnormally low temperature, lethargic, and moribund. :-(

had to leave him there for confinement. he's on IV already as you can see. was trying my best to comfort him but that can't be fun staying overnight at the vet's.

my poor pussy. the only one left after sibling mango passed away and carrot disappeared forever.

quite a coincidence, that.

am currently reading Jasper Fforde's novel that included a dodo bird called Pickwick...

and then i re-discovered this song by Dave Matthews (from the Some Devil album) called Dodo. it's so catchy, i simply couldn't shake off the tune from my head. but atleast this one is a worthy LSS (Last Song Syndrome).

on winging it

who doesn't like buffalo wings?

not me. i love 'em! gab too. :-D

though i'd always wondered why they're called that. buffaloes don't have wings do they? hmmm...

Buffalo wings have nothing particularly to do with the buffalo or American bison. This misconception was made famous when Jesica Simpson told a friend "I don't eat buffalo" when asked why she didn't order them on an episode of Newlyweds.

ha ha ha! like, d'uh? but thanks to wikipedia for providing the answers. i know now that it doesn't have anything to do with the animal, but rather that place in New York where the recipe originated.

gab and i stumbled upon this resto called Flaming Wings along Aguirre Street in BF Paranaque. they have the yummiest wings available in orders of 5, 10, 15, 20, 30 and 50.

we also tried the dips and so far we like the blue cheese the most. the honey mustard mayo and ranch are good as well. the wings go with either fries, mashed potatoes or as the pinoys would have it, white rice.

there's me and gab, and friend tetet, feasting on them wings as we were waiting for angel, who arrived minutes later. too bad she's not with us in the photo, since she's not, uhrm... "out" mwhahahaha! :-))

was supposed to blog about this last december. anyway, gab and i were lucky enough to catch the first night (on 26th december 2005) of the first ever PYRO OLYMPICS hosted by the Philippines. we managed to see a little bit of china's fireworks from roxas boulevard while stuck in traffic.

some idiot drivers were so enthralled by it all, they decided to leave their cars parked in front of the main thoroughfare. so that leaves us wherelese to go, eh? :-(

by the time australia was on, it was good that we were already safely parked somewhere away from the throng of uzis (usyoseros). too bad we didn't bring a camera with us. it was awesome!australia bagged the main prize too. but that's getting ahead of the story. well, as i understand it nine countries were supposed to show their stuff, with two countries per night beginning the 26th december until the 30th.

gab and i figured it would be too much of a hassle to go there every night so we waited until the final night. the fireworks display above is by UAE. gab and i decided to go with the mother from my old coven, let's call her MADONNA, and her child. :-)) the cute girl also happens to be my goddessdaughter.

we trekked all the way from the blue wave area where we were parked to the esplanade, the site of the soon-to-rise Mall of Asia. 'twas a very long walk, we were all a bit cranky but it was worth it. there was even a magician (see above)who tried to entertain us but how to convince someone who is uhrm... "magic" herself eh? he he he.

child was very amused though. but she totally forgot about her crankiness when the fireworks display started, so there's her and Madonna now smiling, with Gab, of course.

BTW, i don't have to say that it was gab who took the pictures, except this last one courtesy of moi.

we all had babaw fun. never had fireworks like this when we were kids. so i feel a bit deprived. :-( back then it was just luces, and watusi. he he he. hmmm... wondering now if typepad allows us to upload videos? that would be real nifty.

photo cats

had very little success in taking photos of my cats these past few months.

for one thing, i'm hardly ever home to play with them cats and kitties. and when i actually do spend some time at home, i'm busy sleeping or working anyways. well, since i'd been sick these past few days i'd had some "bonding" time with them at last.

these pics aren't very great though.

the resolution is a bit poor. :-(

am using my bro's camera phone too (and the night mode feature), with no flash. well, here's ashley now. still very mayabang-looking. but among the backyard kittens, she's the only one who was willing to sit still.

that's coz she was sleepy too hehehe.

here on the left is pan(g)it cat. she wasn't very pretty as a newborn kitten, hence the name (that means ugly). but today i realized just how smart she was. she knows how to play swat/shake hands with me with just the paws, and claws unsheathed.

oh and she's ambidextrous too. just like saffy, panit cat likes to play soccer. she's so into chasing the rubber ball around the backyard. out of the 13 cats that i currently have only 2 of them enjoy playing with, uhrm... balls. ha! :-(

and saffy boy is so matampuhin, i swear. i know now that he doesn't like being laughed at. he made deadma gab and me the last time we did just that. he made irap too and stayed away for a while... he only went near us after a couple of minutes.

maybe it's just us making the connection. animals don't really make tampo, or do they? hmmm...

i sound so barok now, i know. :-(

i have a good explanation, promise! i just woke up from the weirdest dream ever. kris aquino and i were supposed to be "best friends". she was visiting me at home to cheer me up since i'd been sick and all. and damn! in my dream she was really nice, totally lovable, no annoying voice, and she looked hot too in a pink tube top.

hmmm... and the answer is NO! hindi ko siya CRUSH!
