been having them bad dreams again. so i was in a blue funk for the past couple of days. still trying to figure out what they mean. oh well!
it doesn't take a lot to get me smiling or laughing again. babaw ako eh. bad dreams and bad trip people/events notwithstanding, today, my day is made.
*insert big GRIN here*
paid my favorite booksale clerk a visit today. her name is jen, by the way, she's super nice. alas, no stuff on my wish list YET (paging FROGGY... if you're reading this, no mags for diwata yet, sorry, girlie!).
however i stumbled upon an issue of SEED magazine, and does well to satisfy the inner geek in me. it's a rag with a cool fusion of science and culture... I HIGHLY recommend this magazine to everyone who likes science and culture, and general geekery. They won the independent press awards too. I like it that their EB has a fair representation of women. well, their tagline really says it all too...
Science is culture.
i love it! the table of contents reveal that there are ubernifty articles about the latest policy of the olympics regarding transsexuals, an engaging interview with greg graffin (punk band bad religion's vocalist) who happens to have a PhD in evolutionary biology, as he goes on to explain why "Charles Darwin is just as punk as Sid Vicious". and then there's also articles about artsy fartsy stuff: as well as the kind of "art work" that MRI's could churn out.
check it out, it's fun!
then i also got me THE BLANK BOOK, a lemony snicket notebook with pages i could fill out with my loopy and indecipherable cursives. according to the blurb page (i.e. the back cover) it says:
you may prefer this Blank Book, in which you can write down your own miserable and upsetting research.. ha! neat-o! wonder if it's about time to chronicle the dominattyrix's dungeon tales then, eh? ;-)
oh BTW, every other page is also filled with quotes from the lemony books, so it's really all a lie... it is *not* so blank after all.
some quotes made me laugh out loud.
some made me think too.
some hmmmm moments there.
some are like, "duh?"
here are some gems from the snicket Blank Book then:
Shyness is a curious thing because, like quicksand, it can strike people at anytime, and also, like quicksand, it usually makes its victims look down.
-- The Austere Academy
No matter who you are, no matter where you live, and no matter how many people are chasing you, what you don't read is often as important as what you do read.
--The Vile Village
Just about everything in this world is easier said than done, with the exception of "systematically assisting Sysiphus's stealthy cyst-susceptible sister," which is easier done than said.
--The Hostile Hospital
"Nothing spoils a nice car trip like a whiny kidnapping victim."
--Count Olaf, The Slippery Slope
... that last quote is dedicated to shobski who (the last time she got kidnapped by achi and moi ) wouldn't quit asking...
Where are we?
or
Are we there yet?
... the next time we kidnap you, you're going to get bound AND gagged too. :-D
ahhh... now back to my purchases... have another book on Heroines (the female hero, not the drugs all right?) so am totally happy.
and now, excuse me while i hie off to the ... uhrm, wherever i can find some peace and quiet, and READ. :-D
